What is Gundog Walks all about?
Gundog walks is all about giving your dog breed specific enrichment walks. If you have a working spaniel, the walk will be based around hunting and flushing, retrieving, and sitting patiently. If you have a labradour that picks up, then the enrichment walks are all about walking to heel, blind retrieves, memory retreives. I work my own dog, and I could never let her be taken out in a pack by a stereotypical dog walker. So I aim to enrich your dogs walk by working with you on their training and exercise.
We’re not like other dog walkers
You’ll never see me walking 6 or more dogs at one time. I’m not your run of the mill dog walker. You will only ever find me with two dogs maximum. There are exceptions to this rule if the dogs are from the same household, but generally your dog will be with me and up to one other dog at a maximum. That may be another clients dog, or on occasion my own dog.
My attention and focus will be on your dog, and I will work with you on any specific training you are currently doing, or want to do in the future.
Enrichment Walks £20 per hour

- Bournemouth

We can cover areas further afield, but we reserve the right to charge extra for travelling expenses. Please contact us for more information.
Pet Visits £15 per 30 mins

Frequently Asked Questions
What do you mean by "working dogs"?
When I use the term “working dog”, I’m referring to the breed traits of the dog. You may or may not be working your dog. For example, a Springer Spaniel is known for their ability to track, flush and retrieve game birds. In order to exercise their brain as well as their body, Gundog Walks aims to work on those breed traits, in a controlled manner, to achieve an enriched walk. We feel this is much more beneficial to the dog than just being walked in a pack of mixed dogs for an hour. Likewise, Labradors are known for their retrieving and finding lost birds, so their time with me will be spent working on those traits. Again, exercising their mind just as much as their body.
What if it’s too hot to walk my dog?
First and foremost, the safety of your dog takes priority. In the event that the morning is deemed too hot, then you’re dog won’t be walked. No dog ever died from not being walked. I can however, use that time to spend with your dog in your own home and garden if you would prefer not to cancel.
Generally all my walks are done in the morning and completed by around 12pm, thus missing out the hottest part of the day. All walking and enrichment training takes place in a woodland environment, so there is plenty of dappled shade. I also carry water at all times and the crates in the car will have cooling mats when necessary.
All walking and enrichment training will be weather appropriate, i.e. the warmer it is, the calmer the time spent with me will be.
Do you train dogs over water?
The answer to this is no. I will not walk or train your dog around water because I won’t take any unnecessary risks with your dog.
How many other dogs will be with my dog?
I will only take out a maximum of 2 dogs at a time. I work on a “no pack” basis. And if you prefer to have your dog walked and trained on it’s own, then that is no problem. I don’t believe in taking out 6 or more dogs at once, as you see with other dog walkers, there is no way a single dog walker can control that many dogs at once.
Do I need to provide my own training equipment?
No. I have a large range of canvas dummies, rabbit skin dummies, and balls etc. I also have a large range of slip leads, clip leads and long lines. Unless you have a specific piece of training equipment you’d like me to use, I provide all that is needed. You can also buy any equipment from me directly, or my online shop www.gundogshop.co.uk
Are there any restrictions
If you have a bitch who is in season, but needs exercising, we will be happy to train and play within the grounds of your home, but she will not be able to take part in an enrichment walk.
